Glass is a proven material and a constant companion in human endeavors to create aesthetic works and, alongside stone, is one of the classic materials used in mosaic art. Differently colored and square or rectangular plates, also called "cakes", are put together to form patterns or figurative representations and are offered for visual pleasure. Another possibility of decorative presentation in mosaic art is the assembling of fragments, which as a whole provide a strongly associative picture.

Fragmentary imitations of snake skin are embedded under the glossy surface of this glass mosaic tile. The degree of magnification in the arrangement of the individual tesserae offers an exciting and interesting experience and underlines the brightened interior space.
